Breakthroughs at a new Dancing Heart Site

Starting a new KAIROS dancing heart™ site is always an exciting adventure.

Will there be resistance?

Will there be open arms?

At Mt. Olivet Day Program it was breakthroughs and open arms all the way! Their staff was amazed at two longterm breakthroughs that came on their very first dancing heart™ session.

One woman was of Swedish background and staff had been encouraging her to speak Swedish to the group for seven years with no luck. KairosAlive! showed up at the first session with Cris, who has a whole repertoire of Swedish fiddle tunes. It didn’t take too much coaxing for a flood of lovely Swedish dialect to come pouring forth from the woman.

It turned out another gentleman in the circle knew a little Swedish as well and soon the lilting strains of the language filled the air. Their staff just looked at each other in amazement and delight.

The second breakthrough involved a man who had declined any kind of or human touch for years. At the end of the first session he initiated reaching out to hold hands in circle to sing the “thank you, thank you for this Great Big Love” song we sing at the end of our sessions. Again, staff was amazed and we said our goodbyes with hugs and moist eyes after a very strong first session!

Wonder what the second session will be like?!

Is it possible to find out about forming a Dancing Heart series in Georgia? I am so inspired by your work and have been doing similar sessions of dance therapy with Alzheimer residents of a daycare in Gainesville, Georgia. But I know this program would be so beneficial to so many others in this area too.
