Entelechy

Kairos was honored this week to be visited by David Slater, head of EntelechyArts in South East London. David is in the U.S. visiting intergenerational dance, theater, and art programs across the country.

First he jumped right in with us at a lively Dancing Heart session at 650 Marshall in St. Paul.  Later in the day he  joined us for Twin Cities Public Television’s taping of a Kairos rehearsal with Ida Arbeit and Irv Williams for part of its “Minnesota Original” series. Ida and Irv are brilliant examples of the creativity possible in the later decades of life.

That evening over dinner, David shared an amazing project he has in the works linking elders in London and Brazil via tech savants from all over the world for the purpose of sharing life wisdom stories and creating art on a world level.

When we asked for his thoughts on his day with Kairos. He reminded us with his outside collaborative eyes of the ‘intimacy’ with which we conduct our daily work. It’s true that we often invite even the quietest voice to inform the center of the group energy but it’s lovely to be reminded of this by a kindred spirit who has found a path to similar ends on the other side of the Atlantic.

We are so happy to have met this man, learn of his work, and will keep our Minnesota eagle eyes peeled for what he and EntelechyArts  are doing and how we can collaborate with him in the future.

“Entelechy: the actualization of form-giving cause as contrasted with potential existence.”—believed to have been coined by Aristotle

Dance Around the World

It is such a joy to meet and dance with all manner of good folk in our Dancing Heart sessions. People from Ethiopia, Somalia, India, China, Japan, Mexico, Holland, Ireland, Russia, Israel, Pakistan and many more all have stepped a lively foot in the Circle  with us.  As we find new patterns of justice, order, growth fullness and stability  in the world, let’s make sure that dance, music, and our stories are always part of the dialogue/multilogue.

Whirlwind of Hellos

This past week has been a breathtaking whirl of new friends and places.
One site has a 98 year old gentleman who played drums with Louis Armstrong at the age of 17 and toured the world. Another site has a concertina player who shared his insight that “rhythm is the basis of everything in the world”.
Shades of Pythagorus~~~!

Several sites have many strong dancers, including new friends from Ethiopia and Somalia. I’m pleased to report that this business of being a cultural catalyst is a two-way street and the changers will be stepping lively to keep in time with the changed. The culture itself is on the move, integrating both neurological and global hemispheres and synthesizing a greater whole out of the honored individual parts.
